Southern Reach Tetralogy

The Southern Reach Tetralogy is a book series written by Jeff VanderMeer, with the first, Annihilation, having been published in 2014 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

Annihilation has been my favorite book since I read it approximately four or five years ago. Its genre can be described as something like sci-fi horror, though that doesn't fully encapsulate it. Annihilation is a Weird book; its prose has an extremely abnormal scientific, objective, and unemotional quality that makes the eerie events of the book seem all the more uncanny.

The book follows our unnamed main character, The Biologist, as she and her three other team members enter a mysterious locale dubbed "Area X" on an exploratory expedition by the US Government. The book is only about 150 pages long, though densely packed with insane bullshit.

Why do I love Annihilation?
